2 Timothy 3:2–5 (NIV)

People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God—having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people.

The Danger of Pride

Paul delivers this sobering list to Timothy as a warning about what the last days will look like. He paints a picture of a culture consumed by self, pride, greed, rebellion, and counterfeit religion. The most chilling part? These people look spiritual—but they deny the real power of God. Paul’s command is blunt: have nothing to do with them.

For men of faith, this passage is a mirror and a warning. It challenges us to look honestly at the world—and at ourselves. Are we being shaped by the culture, or by Christ? Do we look godly but live empty? Paul says that surface-level religion isn’t enough. God calls us to be different, holy, set apart.

Today’s challenge: Don’t blend in. Don’t settle for looking spiritual. Live with real power.
