Have you never heard? Have you never understood? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of all the earth. He never grows weak or weary. No one can measure the depths of his understanding.
Isaiah 40:28 NLT
Have you never heard? Have you never understood? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of all the earth. He never grows weak or weary. No one can measure the depths of his understanding.

The book of Isaiah was written primarily by the prophet Isaiah during the late eighth century BC, around 740–700 BC. Isaiah spoke to Judah during a time of fear, exhaustion, and looming national threat. The people were emotionally worn down by political instability, foreign powers, and repeated failure. Many felt depleted and uncertain about the future. Isaiah reminded them of who God is when human strength runs out.
This verse contrasts human limitation with God’s nature. People grow tired. Leaders weaken. Emotions drain. God does not. Isaiah points the reader away from self-reliance and toward perspective. God’s strength is not seasonal. His understanding does not run dry. The verse prepares the ground for later promises about renewed strength by first establishing that God Himself is never depleted. Hope begins by recognizing the difference between human weakness and divine endurance.
For you, this verse speaks directly to emotional exhaustion. You do not have to pretend you are fine. You acknowledge limits without shame. When you feel worn down, overwhelmed, or mentally tired, this verse redirects your focus. God does not tire of you. He does not lose patience or clarity. You draw strength by leaning into His steadiness rather than pushing yourself harder. Emotional health grows when you stop demanding endless output from yourself and start trusting the God who never grows weary.
Spend a few quiet minutes today reading Isaiah chapter 40 and let it reset how you think about strength.
