Corinth was a city built on reputation, competition, and public recognition, and that atmosphere had seeped into the church when Paul wrote from Ephesus around AD 53–55. Believers were aligning themselves with leaders, ideas, and intellectual status in ways that mirrored the culture around them. Loyalty had shifted from Christ to personalities and preferences.
