Hebrews 12:1 (NIV)

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.

This verse follows a powerful list of faith heroes in Hebrews 11, men and women who stood firm when everything told them to quit. In chapter 12, the writer turns the focus on us: now it’s your turn. We’re surrounded by spiritual witnesses, and the race of faith is underway. But to run well, we must drop every weight—especially the sins that wrap around our legs and slow us down.

For men, this is both a warning and a charge. You cannot run strong if you’re holding onto old habits, secret sin, or distractions. The race is personal. The calling is real. And the finish is worth it.

Today’s question: What do you need to throw off to run the race with perseverance?
