When Confidence Is Low
Judges 6:15 KJV
And he said unto him, Oh my Lord, wherewith shall I save Israel? behold, my family is poor in Manasseh, and I am the least in my father's house.
This verse records Gideon’s response when God calls him to lead Israel during a season of oppression. Gideon does not argue or resist aggressively. He measures himself honestly and comes up short. His family lacks influence, his position feels insignificant, and the task feels far beyond his capacity. Gideon’s words reflect insecurity shaped by background, comparison, and perceived inadequacy. Scripture preserves this moment to show that divine calling often intersects with a man’s weakest sense of confidence, not his strongest.

Low confidence settles in quietly. It shows up as hesitation before decisions, reluctance to step forward, and a constant awareness of what you lack. You replay your background. You measure yourself against others. You notice where you fall short faster than where you are capable. Over time, certainty erodes and self-doubt becomes familiar.
When confidence is low, responsibility feels heavier than it used to. You may still show up and do what is required, but internally you feel exposed. Every decision carries extra weight. You question whether you are the right person, whether you have what it takes, or whether someone else would do it better.
This verse does not shame that internal struggle. Gideon does not hide his insecurity, and God does not wait for confidence to appear. Scripture shows that low confidence does not cancel calling. God does not rely on self-assurance to accomplish His work. He meets men in their hesitation and provides presence where confidence is thin. This passage reminds you that feeling unqualified does not mean you are unusable. God does not need you to believe in yourself before He meets you where you are.
Action Steps
Tell God honestly where confidence feels lowest right now. Name the area where you feel unsure or inadequate. Do not correct it or talk yourself out of it. Sit quietly for a few moments, allowing God to meet you without requiring confidence first.

Let's Pray
Lord, I feel unsure of myself and aware of my limitations. Confidence feels thin, and doubt has been louder than assurance. I am bringing You the places where I feel least qualified, trusting that You see me more clearly than I see myself and that Your presence does not depend on my confidence. In Jesus' name amen.
Let the power of Jesus be with you today! Keep Him close to you, and your heart!
