The Southern Baptist Convention 2025 (SBC), the largest Protestant denomination in the U.S., is set to convene in Dallas from June 8–11, 2025. Delegates will vote on eight proposed resolutions tackling significant moral and societal issues, including:
Opposition to pornography and sports betting
Denouncement of chemical abortion pills
Reaffirmation against abortion, transgender rights, and same-sex marriage
Calls to defund Planned Parenthood
While the SBC continues to wield substantial political and religious influence—particularly in Texas, home to 2.4 million Southern Baptists—the denomination faces challenges. Membership declined by 260,000 in 2024, reaching its lowest since 1974. However, weekly church attendance and baptisms have seen an uptick. Past resolutions, such as opposing women pastors and in vitro fertilization, have sparked internal debates. The upcoming resolutions emphasize moral concerns and advocate for legislative action and spiritual renewal.
