Colossians 3:23 (NIV)
Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.

Working for the Lord
These verses come from the apostle Paul's letter to the church in Colossae, where he addresses various aspects of Christian living. Paul reminds believers that their daily tasks, whether done in public or private, should be undertaken with the same dedication and sincerity as though they were serving Christ directly. He calls his readers to adopt an eternal perspective: the way we carry out our responsibilities is an expression of our devotion to God, not merely a means to gain approval or reward from people.
For men today, this instruction has powerful implications. In our workplaces, family roles and personal endeavors, it is easy to get caught up in seeking recognition or advancement. Paul's words redirect our motivation. Rather than measuring success by titles, accolades or salaries, we are to measure it by faithfulness and sincerity toward the Lord. Whether we are leading a business, helping our children with homework or volunteering at church, we are encouraged to give our best efforts because we are ultimately accountable to God for how we steward our time and talents.
Living this verse out also shapes our attitudes toward authority and tasks that feel mundane or thankless. Knowing that God sees and values our work enables us to approach each assignment with integrity, even when others do not notice. This perspective cultivates humility and perseverance, because our sense of value comes from being servants of Christ rather than from human praise. By focusing on serving the Lord through all we do, men can find purpose and joy in both significant achievements and everyday routines.
