For the Mighty One has done great things for me—holy is his name.

This verse comes from Mary’s song of praise, often called the Magnificat. After receiving the news from the angel that she would carry the Messiah, Mary visited Elizabeth and responded with worship. In this moment, she acknowledges God’s greatness, holiness, and His personal hand in her life. This verse reflects gratitude, humility, and recognition that every blessing flows from God’s power and holiness.
Men today often carry heavy burdens, providing for their families, proving their worth, and enduring pressures to perform. It’s easy to overlook God’s hand in our lives when we’re focused on the struggles in front of us. Luke 1:49 reminds men to pause and remember: God has already done great things in us, through us, and for us. When we shift from focusing on what’s missing to thanking God for what He has already done, we regain strength and perspective.
Start today with gratitude. Write down one or two “great things” God has done for you, whether it’s your health, your family, your salvation, or the fact that you’re still standing after hardship. Gratitude reframes our battles. When you declare God’s holiness and goodness, you stop fighting from exhaustion and start walking with renewed strength.
