Distracted, Restless, Overcommitted, Scattered, Crowded

Luke 10:42 NLT

There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.

Your days feel full, yet something important keeps getting pushed to the edges. You stay busy, responsible, and productive, but the quiet space where you hear God has grown smaller. You opened this because you sense the difference, and you do not want to keep living on noise alone.

Luke composed his Gospel as an orderly record for readers who did not share Israel’s background. Writing around AD 60–62, he paid close attention to setting, custom, and detail. This moment takes place inside a home, not a synagogue or crowd. Hospitality carried weight in that culture. Welcoming a guest reflected honor, reputation, and faithfulness. Luke includes this scene because it exposed how easily good obligations could overshadow something greater.

Jesus enters a house where two sisters respond in different ways. Martha takes on the expected role. Serving mattered. Order mattered. Nothing she did was wrong in itself. Mary chose stillness instead. She positioned herself near Jesus and listened. When tension surfaced, Jesus did not condemn work or responsibility. He identified priority. Attention to Him held lasting value because it shaped everything else that followed.

This meets you where life feels loud. Your schedule fills itself. People expect answers. Tasks stack up fast. Time with Jesus does not compete with responsibility. It gives it direction. You do not need ideal conditions or extended silence. You need intention. Even a brief pause reshapes your posture.

Choose a small space today and protect it. Put the phone away. Sit down. Read slowly. Let the noise wait. You do not lead, provide, or decide better by rushing past Christ. You grow steady by listening first. Attention changes how you carry everything else.

Set aside ten focused minutes and read Luke chapter 10 at a measured pace. Let stillness do its work before the day continues.

Luke 10:42 NLT

Choosing Stillness

For men seeking focused time with Jesus

Heavenly Father, I admit how easily I fill my days with motion and noise. I rush from one task to the next and leave so little room to slow down and truly listen. Draw my attention back to You today. Teach me to step out of hurry, to breathe, and to sit in Your presence without feeling the need to perform or produce. Help me protect quiet time with You without guilt, without constant distraction, and without the urge to reach for something else.

God, clear the clutter in my thoughts so I can hear Your voice as I read Your Word and walk through my day. Let what I receive from You in the quiet shape the way I respond, decide, and lead. When my mind starts to race, pull me back to Your peace. When the day gets crowded, remind me that being with You is not wasted time but the most important part of my day. Lead me with calm focus and steady obedience in every responsibility You have placed in front of me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
