With My Loving Eye on You: How Nathan Learned to Follow God’s Guidance One Step at a Time

Nathan had always been decisive. In his career as a project manager, people relied on him to make quick calls and stick with them. But when his company downsized and he lost his job, every decision felt heavier.

After a few weeks of searching, two opportunities emerged. One was a stable job in his city, similar to what he had always done. The other was a new role across the country, riskier, but with the potential for growth.

Nathan had always been decisive, until this choice came along.

Nathan made pros and cons lists. He called friends. He researched cost of living, schools, and neighborhoods. But the more information he gathered, the more paralyzed he felt.

One night, lying awake, he prayed, “God, I don’t know which way to go. Please show me.” The verse from Psalm 32:8 came to mind. “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you.”

He opened his Bible and read it slowly. The words that stood out most were loving eye. Nathan realized he had been asking God for direction like He was a distant boss. Instead, God was a Father who watched over him with care.

The next morning, Nathan took a walk without his phone. No lists. No research. Just prayer. He began asking God to lead him in peace, not pressure. By the end of the walk, the idea of moving across the country no longer felt right. It wasn’t fear, it was clarity.

Over the next week, conversations and circumstances confirmed that staying was the right choice. The local job offer came through, and the role ended up giving him both stability and unexpected growth.

Months later, Nathan realized that God’s guidance didn’t come through lightning bolts or instant certainty. It came through His steady presence and small nudges that aligned with peace.

Now, when faced with decisions, Nathan starts with the same prayer: “Counsel me with Your loving eye on me.” He’s learned that when he seeks God first, the steps become clearer, even if they come one at a time.
