Lack No Good Thing: Mark’s Journey from Scarcity to God’s Provision

Mark had always measured life in terms of what he didn’t have. Growing up in a low-income neighborhood, money was always tight. As an adult, he carried that same fear of not having enough into every decision.

He worked long hours, skipped vacations, and hoarded what little he could save. Still, the bills always seemed bigger than his paycheck. Every unexpected expense felt like a personal failure.

Mark measured life by what he didn’t have — until God changed his view of enough.

When his hours were cut at work, the tension in his home grew. He and his wife argued late into the night about how to make ends meet. Their pantry looked bare, and every day felt like walking a tightrope over a drop he could not afford to fall into.

One Sunday, sitting in church more out of habit than faith, he heard the pastor read Psalm 34:10. “The lions may grow weak and hungry, but those who seek the Lord lack no good thing.” The words lingered in his mind long after the service ended.

At first, he argued with the verse. “I’m seeking You, God, but I still lack a lot.” But something in him knew this promise wasn’t about having everything he wanted. It was about trusting God to provide everything he truly needed.

That week, Mark made a decision. Before checking his email or bank account each morning, he would open his Bible and pray. He asked God to help him see His provision, even if it looked different than what he expected.

Small things began to change. A neighbor dropped off extra groceries after a bulk purchase. A friend sent him a gas card in the mail “just because.” His wife picked up extra shifts that covered the bills for the month. None of it was planned, but all of it met their needs.

Mark began keeping a journal of every blessing, big or small. The more he recorded, the more he realized that his family was not going without, they were living proof that God provides in His timing and His way.

He began recording every blessing, big or small — and saw God’s provision everywhere.

Months later, Mark’s hours were restored at work, and an unexpected raise gave him breathing room. But what changed most wasn’t his income, it was his perspective. He no longer saw his life through the lens of scarcity.

When friends at church talked about struggling to make ends meet, Mark shared his journal with them. Page after page of God’s faithfulness. “If you seek Him,” Mark would say, “you will lack no good thing. I’m not telling you what I think. I’m telling you what I’ve lived.”

Now, when life feels uncertain, Mark goes back to that same promise. The lions may grow weak and hungry, but those who seek the Lord will always have enough.
